Our very own clinical nurse specialist team leader, Judy Barry, was “gently” persuaded to lace up her trainers in aid of Meadow House hospice and take part in the Ealing half marathon in September.

Judy, 56 years young, has worked for the NHS for over 20 years, and her passion is palliative (end-of-life) care.

“I absolutely love my job”, she says “and I work with a fantastic team. When I’m at Meadow House, I’m in my happy place.

“It’s a privilege to care for people at such a vulnerable time of their lives, so if there’s anything I can do to improve our services and the care we give, I’m more than happy to do it. That’s why I’ll be running in September and hopefully raising lots of money.

“I’m not a runner, but I’m a very keen walker. I signed up to the half marathon three weeks ago, and training is going well so far. I’ve downloaded 5 and 10K apps on my mobile, and a great play list of tunes keeps me going.

“A colleague has been talking about taking part every year, and I’ve managed to twist his arm, so I’ll have someone to keep me company, and encourage me on the day.

“I’d definitely encourage others to sign up and take part to support their local hospice.”
