If a patient is experiencing unpleasant physical or psycho social effects of his or her disease, an appointment can be made to see a community  nurse specialist or doctor, counsellor at the hospice.  Under normal circumstances this arrangement would be made by the District Nurse, the GP, the Community Nurse Specialist or the patient or relative.  Appointments are quite flexible within the working week and it offers the patient the reassurance of being seen relatively quickly, without necessarily being part of the Day Hospice or inpatient facilities.
